About Me
I understand that whether you have experience with therapy or not, reaching out can feel scary and unsettling. I passionately serve children, adolescents/teens, adults and seniors. I attained a post graduate certificate in Counseling Children and Adolescents to balance my education to serve all ages and help families. I implement techniques that are both empirically supported through research and customized to nurture your sense of safety and reflects your values, beliefs, culture, and goals and helps your voice be heard. For this purpose, I integrate research supported therapy theories, techniques, and interventions according to developmental fit and your individual interests, hobbies, preferences, and abilities (see Therapy Orientation and Therapy Technique Choices below).
I lean into viewing treatment of the whole person, which includes a holistic view of body, mind, and spirit along with seeking to understand the individuals, relationships, communities, and resources.

Rose Stokes, MA, Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate
For over two decades, I’ve supported children, teens, adults, and families through life’s challenges. My journey began in a psychiatric hospital for youth and continued in public schools, where I worked with IEPs, 504 plans, and behavior support. In 2019, I returned to graduate school to deepen my ability to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families in meaningful healing.
I’m a wife, mother, grandmother, and a passionate advocate for the dignity and value of every person. Whether you identify as neurodiverse, LGBTQIA+, Christian, spiritual, atheist, or hold a different worldview—you are welcome here. I honor your story and the unique strengths you bring. My approach blends evidence-based practices such as play therapy, EMDR, somatic techniques, and parts work, customized to your needs, values, and goals. Together, we’ll create a space where you feel safe, heard, and empowered to heal—at your pace, in your way.
My General Therapy Orientation
| These are aspects of therapy that are a common thread used among other therapy techniques listed below. I use a collaborative, integrative approach to customize therapy to reflect your values and culture as we curiously explore: what is hard; timeframes of when it has been most difficult and least difficult; differences between what is and what you would like it to be (goals); using and expanding strengths and resources (physical, social, emotional resources and connections); developmental stages and life cycle and if something has been an obstacle to growth; what attachment and connection look like for you; labeling emotions with curiosity and without shame; symptoms and understanding of emotional impact on the body (somatic and polyvagal states); emotional triggers; accessing and expanding to calming strategies and coping tools (such as interests, hobbies, mindfulness, exercise, grounding and cognitive processes). I believe, as human beings, we seek for success and joy. Sometimes our bodies (biology), situations (environment and other people), and how we think (cognitive) can impede our ability to reach our potential. |

Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, Social Sciences and Business. I obtained my bachelors degree was Interdisciplinary in social sciences, business, and humanities from Marylhurst University in Oregon in 1999. After my experiences at a mental hospital, in schools, businesses and volunteering in my communities I came to understand people need different things to feel safe, learn, be heard, and grow toward health and healing. To connect with those I served I learned to understand what was important to them in and helped them learn in ways that were congruent with their values. I returned to attain a Masters degree to more fully support root issues that were being shown to others through such symptoms as sleep issues, nightmares, troubles concentrating, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, anger outbursts, harm to self or others, and feelings of isolation and not being understood or valued.
Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy. I selected Marriage and Family Therapy with the understanding that families are diverse, and can include those you have hand selected for connection and support. I have been trained to work with individuals and multiple people in sessions. I use systemic perspective to understand not only individuals but their families, and communities they are a part of and impacted by. I am currently a Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate working toward licensure and collecting hours on my journey to become a registered play therapist and certified in EMDR.
